The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is working towards establishing a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, with operations expected to commence in 2027.
The proposed centre will enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and across North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.
JAMB disclosed the development following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, where the proposed centre was discussed.
According to the Board, the initiative reflects its commitment to making the UTME more accessible, inclusive and globally connected, while creating more pathways for Nigerians in the diaspora to access tertiary education in Nigeria.
The centre is also expected to strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and Nigeria’s tertiary education system, bringing the UTME closer to eligible candidates who wish to pursue higher education in Nigeria.
“More access. Fewer barriers. Closer to home.”
