Akwa Ibom, Other States Declare Work-Free Day To Mark The 2026 World Teachers Day
Teachers across Akwa Ibom State will not be required to teach on Monday, October 5, 2026, as the state government has declared the day a Teaching-Free Day to enable them to participate fully in this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration.

Teachers across Akwa Ibom State will not be required to teach on Monday, October 5, 2026, as the state government has declared the day a Teaching-Free Day to enable them to participate fully in this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration.
The declaration covers teachers in public and private primary, secondary and technical schools across the state and was approved by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD.
According to a notice issued by the State Ministry of Education, all teachers are expected to attend the state’s 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The Ministry encouraged teachers to use the occasion to join colleagues across the state in celebrating their contributions to the development of education and the future of children in Akwa Ibom.
Parents and guardians have also been advised to take note of the Teaching-Free Day and make the necessary arrangements.
Ekiti State and Kwara State have also declared Monday, October 5, 2026 a work-free day for teachers across the state, to mark this year's World Teachers Day.
